A public hearing on Flowery Branch’s 2016-17 budget, which calls for a tax rate rollback, is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 5517 Main St.
The hearing will take place before the Flowery Branch City Council, which is also set to give its first OK to the tax rate Thursday.
The proposed rate is 3.264 mills, down from the current 3.337 mills, with 1 mill equal to $1 for each $1,000 in assessed property value.
The council is set to adopt the $4.4 million budget and give its final OK to the tax rate at its June 16 meeting, Finance Director Jeremy Perry said.
The budget takes effect July 1.

Two Hall County Odyssey of the Mind teams placed third in World Finals of the creative problem-solving competition.
Topping the results were a team from C.W. Davis Middle School competing in the Stack Attack problem and from World Language Academy competing in the Something Fishy problem. It was the sixth straight top three finish for the Davis team. Eight Hall teams brought home top 25 finishes.
The Stack Attack problem involves stacking weights on a balsa wood structure that weighs less than 1 pound. Kim Carroll, who has coached the team each year, said the team’s structure held 1,400 pounds at the competition at Iowa State University.
It probably is the best overall result for Hall County since it began competing in the Odyssey program, Carroll said Tuesday.
The Davis team has had three third and three second place finishes since 2011. It placed third in a field of 55 teams.
“The kids did great,” Carroll said. “That’s what I tell the kids — we want to be top 10.”
The Davis Middle team members are Will McDowell, Jack Ramsey, Sophia Reece, Chelsea Keller, Justin Davis, Kevin Jiang and Brandon Lackey.
Carroll said the two teams in first and second were both from China. More than 800 teams competed in the World Finals.
Aaron and Darcie Turpin coached the World Language team that took third place in the Something Fishy problem.
The problem required the team to “design and operate a technical solution and present the solution in a creative eight-minute performance,” Aaron Turpin said.
Team members are Trinity Failyer, Emma Veiga, Jamie Ingraham, Anna Turpin, Johan Ingraham and Madeleine Vaughn.
“Everything in the solution — including engineering, building, production and performance — must be 100 percent from the student team members and can cost no more than $145,” Turpin said.
The Turpins also coached a Davis Middle team that won 10th place out of 59 teams in Something Fishy.
Carroll and Michelle Torres coached the Flowery Branch High School team that finished eighth out of 39 teams in Stack Attack.

Area authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver in the death of a pedestrian on Interstate 85 in Jackson County.
Jackson County emergency workers responded after getting a 2:30 p.m. call about a dead body at I-85 southbound near Dry Pond Road, said Steve Nichols, emergency services director.
The victim’s identity isn’t known yet, but Georgia State Patrol said he was the driver of a tractor-trailer who had pulled onto the shoulder, stepped out of the vehicle and was walking on the roadway toward the rear of the vehicle.
A box truck then struck the driver and kept traveling southbound toward Atlanta, according to GSP.
Witnesses describe the truck as having a graphic of a picture frame with green and red artwork within the frame and “Foodservice” in the name. The vehicle “will also have a missing passenger side mirror,” GSP said.
The driver was described as a white or Hispanic man in his 40s with a beard. Anyone with information on the vehicle is asked to call the GSP post in Athens at 706-552-4439.
Authorities “have searched all the truck stops in the county so far and haven’t been able to locate anything,” Nichols said. “The (truck driver) is going to have a bunch of damage to the front of his vehicle.”
