Checking out library books online should be easier than going to the library itself.
In Hall County, it hasn’t always been.
But the Hall County Library System has a new “one click” e-book checkout program that makes renting remarkably simple.
“This is put out by Recorded Books, which is a company we’ve worked with for years and years,” said Jeanne Hozak, adult services manager at the Gainesville library branch. “They’ve provided us with books on CDs, which developed into a product for downloadable audio books. They then expanded into e-books.”
Previously, the library system used an Axis 360 program that involved multiple steps to check out even one book. The new system, called OneClickdigital, is much quicker.
“In previous years, there were challenges to getting a book downloaded without a number of steps to get it to actually work,” she said. “Recorded books has got it down. It’s a very easy process.”
There’s a one-time registration process using a library card number to create an account, which can be done on the website or the app.
Once the account is established, users can view all the available books, select one and check out the book immediately.
“You’ll have the book for your use,” Hozak said. “It’ll be downloaded right onto your toy or device for your use.”
Anyone who already has an audiobook account with the library can use the same account, since the same company manages both systems.
Hozak said anyone who needs help setting up their account or learning the app can come by any library branch for assistance. She is planning some tutorials in January.
For more information, contact the library system at 770-532-3311, visit hallcoga.oneclickdigital.com or stop by one of the five branches.
Hozak said many people get new tablets, smartphones or other devices for Christmas, so the start of the new year is a good time to learn about the new system.
“It is so much easier,” she said. “It’s almost seamless to get your fix with books, be it reading or listening. We’re all so excited to be able to have a product we can be proud of and present to our users.”
